Chicago, Ill. (November 13, 2018) – Cruzan® Rum, producer of some of the world’s finest aged rums, is proud to announce the launch of Cruzan® Hurricane Proof™ Rum as the newest addition to the brand’s portfolio. Bottled at 137 proof in acknowledgement of the wind speeds of the category 5 hurricane that swept through the brand’s home island of St. Croix last year, Cruzan Hurricane Proof offers a clean and smooth flavor profile due to the low levels of fusel oils with which this rum is crafted. As part of Cruzan’s dedication to contributing to the Island Spirit Fund, of which Cruzan is a founding sponsor, Cruzan will donate $1 to the Fund for each case of this rum sold, meaning every bottle purchased will provide aid and support to communities adversely impacted by hurricanes in the U.S. Virgin Islands and across the United States.
“We’re proud to introduce Cruzan Hurricane Proof just in time for the giving season as a way to drink well and give back,” said Gary Nelthropp, Cruzan Rum’s Master Distiller. “We’ve named our newest expression as a nod to the resilience of our community in the wake of last year’s devastating storms. We look forward to continuing to support the Island Spirit Fund and the important work it makes possible into 2019 and beyond.”
Created in the aftermath of the destruction caused last year by Hurricanes Maria and Irma, the Island Spirit Fund supports short-and long-term disaster relief efforts in the U.S. Virgin Islands and across the United States, helping rebuild and reinvigorate communities impacted by storms of all kinds. To-date, the Fund has raised nearly $1 million through individual donations, Cruzan’s case matching program, and the generous case-matching donation commitments from several distributor partners.
Cruzan Hurricane Proof’s clean and smooth flavor makes it the perfect gift for any rum lover this holiday season, as the rum makes a welcome addition to any classic rum cocktail or frozen beverage, or in the brand’s signature cocktail, the Cruzan Hurricane Hot Toddy.

In 2019, Cruzan Rum will continue to support the Island Spirit Fund through the brand’s case-matching donation program and will also continue to absorb the cost of all transactional fees associated with all donations to the Island Spirit Fund, so that 100 percent of donors’ generosity goes directly to communities in need. In the wake of additional needs on the U.S. mainland after this year’s Hurricanes Florence and Michael, Cruzan will also set aside a portion of donations through the Island Spirit Fund to be allocated to relief organizations mobilizing ahead of future inbound storms, in order to offer immediate relief and aid once these storms have passed.

ABOUT BOWMORE®
Founded in 1779, Bowmore® is the oldest distillery on Islay, one of the Scottish isles which make up the region known as the 'Islands' in the lexicon of Whisky. The other regions are the Highlands, Speyside and the Lowlands. Islay malts are famous for their characteristic smokiness and Bowmore® is no exception; the malt is carefully smoked in a peat-fired kiln, using skills honed over two centuries to craft a perfectly balanced Single Malt.
Time is savoured at Bowmore® and the distillery’s adherence to traditional production methods helps to shape the character of its Single Malts. Today, it prides itself as one of the rare distilleries which still produces its own floor malted barley, hand-turned by a traditional wooden malt shovel and hand drawn machinery. Water for the whiskies is specially drawn from the Laggan River, with its rich peaty overtones – the same Islay peat that fires the malt-drying kiln.
Bowmore® Distillery's close proximity to the sea is also vital in determining the final character of its spirit. The legendary Bowmore® No. 1 Vaults is where most of the whiskies spend their long lives resting quietly in the cool, dark, damp cellars below sea level, oblivious to the waves thrashing the vault's sea-facing wall.
They mature in oak casks, previously used for bourbon, sherry or claret, gradually developing rich and mellow flavours until the expertise of our whisky makers deems them ready for bottling. It is this combination of peat, barley, sea breeze, water, wood, people and tradition that together create the perfectly balanced warm and smoky character of Bowmore® Single Malt Scotch Whiskies. Through peerless maturation expertise and sense of timing, Bowmore® is “Time, Savoured®” – a rich reward for those that appreciate the value of time and an exquisite whisky coveted the world over.

Chicago, Illinois, November 2, 2017 – Beam Suntory today named Albert Baladi, currently President of its International region, to the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer and President, Americas. In this role, Baladi will oversee Beam Suntory’s global commercial operations while also leading the Americas region. Tim Hassett, who has served as President of the Americas region for the past three years, has made a personal decision to become CEO of a start-up company outside the spirits industry. Succeeding Baladi as President, International will be Pryce Greenow, who is currently Senior Vice President, EMEA.
“We are pleased to make these important appointments from our own leadership pipeline, and I’m confident these moves will set us up for continuity, sustained momentum and tremendous future success,” said Matt Shattock, Chairman & CEO of Beam Suntory. “While we are sorry to see Tim leave, Albert is ideally suited for this expanded leadership role. Albert has built and led his teams with great passion to deliver impressive market-beating performance across a broad and diverse range of countries. Pryce’s career progression and strong track record of results position him perfectly to lead our International region.”
Albert Baladi is a 30-year consumer-packaged-goods veteran who has led the company’s International region for the past two-and-a-half years. He joined Beam Suntory from Yum! Brands in 2011 as President of EMEA, before becoming President, International in 2015 when the company combined management of its EMEA and Asia Pacific businesses. Baladi has held positions of increasing responsibility throughout his career, including at Yum! Brands, PepsiCo and Procter & Gamble, and has spent more than a decade working in the United States during that time. Baladi earned his preparatory degree from the Ecole Polytechnique Lausanne and received his business degree from HEC Lausanne, both located in Switzerland. Baladi will be based in Chicago and report to Shattock.
Pryce Greenow has developed a breadth and depth of global experience and a strong track record of results in his 13 years at Beam Suntory. Prior to his current position, Greenow’s commercial leadership roles included MD of Developed Europe, MD of Emerging Markets in South America, and Group General Manager of the US & Mexico. His previous positions include GM Mixables, GM West US and VP of Channel Management. Greenow joined the company in 2005 with the acquisition of Allied Domecq.
Earlier in his career, Greenow spent seven years in the British Army where he rose to the rank of Captain. He is a graduate of the University of Bristol and earned his MBA at Harvard Business School. He will remain based in Madrid and report to Baladi.
Baladi and Greenow will serve on the Beam Suntory Executive Leadership Team, and both appointments are effective immediately.
Ken Ruff, VP of national accounts for on-premise, has impacted more than our business in his 28 years at Beam Suntory. Inspired by a family he met in a supermarket in 2009, in which a soldier, his wife and infant could not afford their holiday groceries, Ken picked up the $12 cost, and then kick-started Holiday Meals for Military Families. The program, led by Operation Homefront, will provide 8,500 meals kits on 25 bases this holiday season. Ken embodies our core values of working hard, having fun, and making a difference fast. (Link to full story below)
What attracted you to Beam Suntory?
I was recruited following a few acquisitions. I saw a company with great spirit, great potential, and above all GREAT people.
What keeps you here?
I love working in National Accounts, On-Premise. We have tons of great customers. It is very competitive and very exciting.
How would you describe the team you work with (your colleagues)?
I have the best sales and marketing team that I ever have had. We continue to re-invent ourselves daily by developing great new promotions for our brands. All of us learn something new every day.
If you could switch jobs for a day and do anything in the whole Beam Suntory organization, what would it be?
Well, let me see…domestically, it probably would be to work a day with R&D and to try all the new product ideas in my head. Or, internationally, I would want to work with the master distillers at Yamazaki or Hakushu.
How has working at Beam Suntory made a difference in your career?
Being at Beam Suntory has made me a better manager, better worker and a better person. I feel challenged and I feel like I make a difference.
How do you feel you’re making a difference at the company?
I feel like everything we do can make a difference. I love helping, teaching and coaching others on our team and in our industry.
What is your favorite Beam Suntory product?
Wow, maybe the hardest question of all. I like different products at different times of the year. My favorites are Maker’s Mark and Booker’s, because of the Samuels and Noe Families.
Did you ever dream that $12 in groceries could lead to feeding 8,500 military families?
No, but that is the kind of company we work for. When I first floated the idea to (Chief Human Resources Officer) Paula Erickson she endorsed and encouraged it. The rest is a lucky chain of events embraced by a ton of people in our company that believe in the power of “good”. This program would not have made it without the support of our plant, field sales, key distributors, the Jim Beam brand team and the PR department.
Chicago, IL, November 14, 2018 – Beam Suntory today announced the promotion of Greg Hughes to serve as President, North America effective January 1, 2019. Hughes, 49, is a veteran consumer products executive who is currently Beam Suntory’s General Manager for North America.
Hughes joined Beam Suntory in 2015 as General Manager, US before assuming his current position in 2017. Hughes has been a key leader in helping Beam Suntory achieve sustained share gains in the U.S. market. Under his leadership, the company’s business in Canada has gained market share since mid-2017, and the Mexico business established its company-owned sales organization earlier this year.
“Greg is ideally suited to lead our North America region,” said Matt Shattock, Chairman & CEO of Beam Suntory. “Since joining Beam Suntory, Greg has stepped up to every leadership challenge he has taken on, and he’s demonstrated a strong track record of performance. Greg brings strength in marketing, commercial and people leadership, and he has been a key leader in helping deliver sustained outperformance in the U.S., our largest global market.”
Hughes has more than 25 years of consumer packaged goods experience in management, marketing and commercial roles. Prior to Beam Suntory, Hughes served in roles of increasing responsibility at Procter & Gamble, Bel Brands USA and Kraft Foods, where he rose to the position of Vice President of Marketing for Kraft’s billion-dollar dressing and condiment portfolio. Hughes earned his MBA from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University, and is a graduate of the University of Kansas.
Hughes will assume responsibility for the North America region from Albert Baladi, who last month was named the next President & CEO of Beam Suntory effective April 1, 2019. Baladi will remain Chief Operating Officer until that time.
